Basic Steps of Remodeling a Bathroom
Are you wondering what it takes to remodel a bathroom? Here are some of the basic steps of remodeling a bathroom.
Planning and Design
Planning and design should be the first step of every bathroom remodel project. After a design is decided upon and all planning is complete, you can move on to the next step.
Demolishing the old bathroom is the first physically challenging step. Demolish and remove any old parts that you want to remodel. The more you want to change, the more you would need to demolish.
Demolishing and removing the entire bathroom would be a much larger step relative to only remodeling certain parts of the bathroom. If you keep the main frame of the old restroom, such as the solid wooden frame, plumbing, etc, the demolition factor of your project would not require as much work.
Certain parts may not need to be demolished if a renovation of the same style is desired instead of a remodel. What is the difference between Renovation vs Remodel? Renovation refers to taking an existing thing and making it look new again, while remodeling refers to completely changing the design of something. Do not demolish an area that you want to renovate with the same style. Demolishing is mainly for the parts of the bathroom that need to be changed in style.
Plumbing may or may not be a large step of your bathroom remodeling project. This will depend on the desired features of your new bathroom.
If you want your new bathtub/shower, sink and toilette to be placed in the same locations as the old ones, then your plumbing requirements will not be as drastic as changing their locations. Even more so, if you keep the same exact sink, bathtub, toilette, etc, then plumbing will be even less of a problem.
On the other hand, if you are planning on rearranging the locations of your bathtub or shower, sink, or toilette, the plumbing will be a much larger step for your project.
Installing New Bathtub and/or Shower
If the bathtub and/or shower is desired to be replaced, it should be installed in the beginning of the project. This should be done in order to properly set up all requirements of bringing the material in and setting up the plumbing while there is as much moving space as possible in the room.
Flooring would be the next step of remodeling a bathroom after having all the required fixtures properly installed. Preferences of flooring for bathrooms usually consist of tile. Install the desired flooring material.
Painting the Walls
Paint the walls and ceilings before moving on. This will prevent having to paint in between thin cracks and small areas after future steps of remodeling the bathroom.
Tiling the Shower
Tiling the shower of a bathroom is a an important step that requires time and patience for perfection. Usually after tile is set, it must dry for 24 hours. After the tiles are completely dry a sealant is added to prevent any sort of leakage.
New Lights & Electrical
Installing new lights and configuring electrical wiring also depends on current remodeling circumstances. Keeping the same light fixtures will make this a much easier step.
Installing Cabinets, Sink, Faucets, Toilette
The amount of labor and material required for this step depends on which parts of the bathroom are desired to be remodeled. This step would be a much larger factor during a complete remodeling project compared to a smaller job such as cabinet refacing.
Tiling the Backsplash
Tiling the backsplash would be the next step. This is done in order to seal the area and prevent and leakage.
This would not be implemented the same way if there is a large mirror taking up the entire wall. Although in the case of having a large mirror, there should still be some sort of waterproof and sealed material up until the beginning of where the mirror starts.
The next step, which tends to be the easiest step in many cases, is to install the required accessories, such as towel hangers, toilette paper holders, etc.
